A saloon is usually a car with a boot or trunk as the yanks say.
A hatchback..well...its got hatch...at the back!-A back door hinged at the roof to allow better access to the rear and the back seats usually fold flat to allow more carriage space.

In a saloon the rear screen and parcel shelf are fixed, with the boot opening starting below and behind the fixed screen.
In a hatchback the boot opening extends to the roof level.
The rear screen is part of the boot lid (the "tailgate" or "hatch"). Usually the parcel shelf is hinged and/or removable.
In some cases (e.g. current Vectra and Mondeo) both are the same length. In smaller cars (e.g Focus) the saloon is longer, with the extra length providing increased luggage space.
In some cases there may also be a difference in rear headroom, due to the different roofline, and the position of the tailgate hinges, and the reinforcement around the tailgate opening. In the Renault Mégane there is also an increase in the wheelbase (the distance from the centre of the front wheels to the centre of the rear wheels) so the saloon has more rear-passenger legroom than the hatchback, but this is not common.
Even when both versions are the same length, the boot space may not be identical due to the different bootlids and parcel shelfs.
In general a saloon is more secure (there is often no easy access to the luggage by breaking a window), and a hatchback more practical (you can fold the seats and remove the parcel shelf to create an almost van-like space for bulky cargo - even with folding seat in a saloon the fixed parcel shelf may be in the way, and bulky items may not fit through the smaller boot opening).

Normally saloons are cars that have 4 doors. Hatchbacks are cars that have either 3 or 5 doors. If the trunk (boot) opens with the rear window its an added door. So hatchbacks could be of the same size of the saloons the only difference is that the trunk opens with the back window allowing you to see the interior of the car.

saloon is a normal car-but a hatchback is a golf , clio, felica,saxo,little cars for the young at heart.If u old and have a family u will need an A4 audi,merc,bentley and a load of money

on a saloon only the boot opens , on a hatch the rear tailgate glass lifts with it.
