YES THEY CAN
They allow the wearing of religious symbols UNDER uniforms, not OVER them.
AND THIS STANDS FOR ALL RELIGIONS NOT JUST CHRISTIANITY
Anyone breaks that rule is liable to be suspended, and sacked if they repeat the offence.

British Airways I suspect must have a section in their contracts that state's uniform procedure.
I would not have thought that in this day and age a cross would be seen as a offensive piece of jewellery.
Unfortunately if you are not complying with their procedures, then they do have the right to sack/suspend the employee.
This is why we are given contracts to sign, so that they are covering their backs, and you covering yours that you have read and understood it.
That way their are no misunderstandings!!

This is the worst aspect of identity politics, something the Labour Party is expert in. They persecute the Christian faith, but spend huge amounts of money to introduce islam into the public realm (including women in the veil working at the immigration desk at the airport). This sort of hypocracy is very dangerous: there should be no faith symbols in the work place because it will always be offensive to somebody. It is your personal issue, not a public one to put in other people's faces. I would never hire a person who wears the veil.

They either allow religious items to be displayed, no matter the religion, or ban all of them. There should not be one rule for some and not for others.
I think BA have reacted badly.

the cross represents the christian faith..... have you heard the news papers or the t.v. attack any other religeon other than christianity? don't think so.....have you also noticed that judges make rulings against christian religeon no other religeons in this country have been ruled against except christianity. our country was founded on the gosphel of Jesus Christ...this cross this person was wearing is a symbol of their faith,if british airways feels that this tiny piece is a threat to them or security, them this person needs to find another job.. tell him/her that Christ will stand with them on this decision.... british airways dosen't deserve this person as an employee..go to a christian book store and find a song by " Carman", called "We need God in america again". listen to what he has to say, it is so true.....

If the company bans ALL religious symbols; crosses, Stars of David, crescent moons, and anything else related to religion, YES is can in most countries, and should. You are working for the passengers, and for their comfort. You are not getting paid to evangelize your religious beliefs OR to show off your jewelry.
As long as the policy applies to everyone, you must see the fairness in this, and logic, too.
Is it true you can wear under your uniform????? You neglected to state that very important fact. I think you may be a troublemaker, and should wear it outside and get sacked.

The issue is that she was wearing the crucifix OVER her uniform, most uniforms are ment to be worn without additional decoration. eg chains etc out of view.
However it is aTypical bloody knee jerk reactions. BA suck anyway. Fly Virgin.

No its not right, its just another company afraid of Islam and no backbone.
At least they have come out into the open about it, I would suggest that Christians do not fly BA.
