Paedophilia. Is it a laughing matter?

Question

I cannot believe the number of people that laughed at a joke in a question about paedophilia earlier on.
Is it ok to laugh about the fact that young children have had their lives ruined by some sick, worthless pondlife?
It was suggested that because I didn't like the joke that I "should get a sense of humour."
Is my lack of sense of humour in question here or is it that of the humour of people who find it funny to joke about paedophilia?

Sorry but paedophilia is no joking matter, it certainly isn't a joke for the kids who have had their life's ruined by paedophiles is it, adults who can't cope with life because of abuse when they were kids, it ruins the life of the whole family when a paedophile harms a child, tears families apart, has a lifetimes affect on the child, it harms any relationship they go into, they trust no one, so no sorry but anyone who thinks paedophilia is a joking matter is in my opinion as sick as the paedophile themselves, good for you for having your morals on the subject and shame on the person who thought it was funny.

I think your sense of humour is just fine honey - I think that paedophile jokes are not funny. Heres what would be funny though - if every person who logged on with a paedophilia joke or laughed at one was investigated by the sexual crimes internet division!

you're right. paedophillia is not something to be laughed at. there are kids in this world, whose lives have been ruined and destroyed after being subjected to abuse. and to beleive that there is something humourous about child perverts and child sex abuse is just plain wrong. as for a lack of sense of humour, the thing is we interpret things in many ways- yet there is clearly nothing funny about paedophillia or adults having sex with young children at all because it is vile and nasty.

People do lots of things they should not and if i had to choose i think i would settle for joking about the issue, not because i thought Paedophilia was to be excused but because it keeps it in the forefront of peoples thoughts.
We can have all the sympathy in the world for victims but we are only morally outraged to salve our consciences until we can get back to our own lives and forget about them.
I see what you are trying to say but "sick jokes" have been around probably as long as prostitution and about all subjects, that is the nature of the jokes. I may be wrong but haven`t you ever told a "sick joke" in your life? it may not have even occurred to you that it WAS sick at the time, just funny!
Comedy reflects the bad in life and for us to be "outraged" by jokes about sensitive subjects is to lie to ourselves. If we find a joke funny then we laugh regardless of what it is about. We may feel a little bad about laughing, even embarrassed in public, but that is our nature, it does not make you a bad person, just a normal one.

definatly not i have kids and i think its down right sick disgusting horrific ............. the people that say these jokes are just as bad as the b***rds that do it how can any one find the jokes funny sense of humour i think they need to get a fcuk life. i have to leave this question now as if i go on i will probably get reported for bad language!! i think you have been too generous to describe peadophiles as sick worthless pondlife.

ppl take too much of a lighthearted view of the topic and i don't understand that. its an incredibly serious area in which the victims of such abuse have been ridiculed and poked fun at after the incidentand that is on top of having to endure such painful experiences.

People who would find any humor in pedophile activities, is either very twisted or very sick. I find no humor in that at all. Laughing at something as sick and pathetic as that is not about a sense of humor. How pathetic a human being must be to find any thing to do with harming a child humorous. God bless

See how funny they would find it if they were abused as a kid! i don't think they would be laughing and taking the serious matter so lightly. you did right to air your point of view as i think you are the intelligent one in this matter. people that find paedophilia funny don't have the intelligence to know better.

You are correct and I support you all the way - pedophilia/child molestation/child abuse is NEVER a joking matter. It's a very serious issue - your sense of humor is pointed in the right direction and that is AWAY from "jokes" of the nature you describe.
