I know, I know, it's been asked a ton of times-- but I'm still not sure for myself. I'm 19 weeks pregnant-- I'm feeling really gassy (I've never had a problem with gas in my life). And I know this is right around the time when you can feel the baby moving-- so, I'm wondering, am I actually feeling the baby moving? is the gas caused by the baby moving? or is the gas totally seperate from the baby moving, and just a result of hormones, etc?

I mean.. it's really strong gas, the kind that moves around in your stomach and I can feel it whether I'm standing or sitting down.

When your baby moves for the first time it may fell like there is a bug under your shirt. It's not going to be really strong right now just a flutter here and a flutter there. I am on my second pregnancy and 17 weeks and I've only felt my baby move a few times so far. Right now if you can actually put your hand on your belly and fell it move then it is probably gas. You will be the only one to fell the baby moving for another couple of weeks.
Keep in mind that every ones pregnancy are different there are no two alike. If the moving that you describe (whether it is gas or the baby) hurts then it is very debatable the baby. You will know when it is the baby after you feel these constant feelings. Most likely to be able to feel the best in the afternoon when you sit down for supper or when you lay down to go to sleep.
Good luck.

The first time I felt it, it was like a teeny little butterfly that flapped for a split second. I kept feeling it, and we figured out it was the baby. I started being able to at about 14 weeks. The chick that said she had to fart to know whether the baby was moving is right, it can be hard to distinguish. Icky and funny, but very true! Good luck!

The feeling of bubbles is the first sign that you can feel the baby move. Its called the quickening. In another couple of weeks you"ll be able to distinguish the different movements your baby makes like weather its an arm or a leg moving its one of the best times of your life so ENJOY!!!!!

it can be whatever you want it to be ..your going to feel alot stronger movement eventually. Your getting all squished inside right now so it might also be air. You cant be sure, but when you start to see your stomach actually move around when you feel that gasy feeling then you will be SURE its your baby...happens around the end of the 4th-5th month.

it's probably the baby.
i just had to stop myself from wondering and decide that yes, i was feeling the baby move.

so, if you think it's the baby, great. if you think it's gas, then, o.k. and you'll feel the baby move soon.

take care.
