It all depends on the job you do. I was a nanny during my first pregnancy and I worked right up to 2 days before and went back after 3 weeks. This time I'm doing home daycare and I plan on working right up to the day before and hopefully only taking 2 weeks off.

I worked until the day before with my first child. My second child I worked until 3 weeks before my due date. My third child I worked until 1 month before my due date. My fourth child I only worked for four months I was in hospital for the rest of the pregnancy so my answer to you it depends on : A) How you feel and how your pregnancy is going (b) how much time you can have off on maternity leave. By the way congratulations.

I worked right up to the day before with my three - but I had no problems at all with the pregnancies, apart from a little fatigue.
I think it depends on you, how your pregnancy is going, how your general health is and how much support you have around you.
If you feel you need the time beforehand, then take it.
My priority was always to have as much time off after the birth as possible.

I'm not a mother (though some may say so), but a friend of mine would not give up work until about two weeks before she had her baby, and that was only on the orders of her doctor! She's not one for sitting about, you see. I think it's probably sensible to stop work three or four weeks before it's due, just so that you can get rest and be fighting fit for the birth.

I'm due in a few days. I worked until 2 weeks before my due date and think that was about right. I was starting to get really tired towards the end of my last month in work and was literally coming home, eating dinner and then falling asleep on the sofa.
It's also quite nice to give yourself a couple of weeks to make sure you have everything ready and to give yourself some time to relax before your life is turned completely upside down !
Generally though you should just play it by ear, your body will tell you when it's time to finish work.

3 weeks before delivery. I had a family man for a boss and he was very understanding. Also, I worked with gentlemen. They wouldn't let me do anything I shouldn't have been doing, lifting and so on. I was tired, as most pregnant women but thinking about the joy ahead of me and how much I wanted to be a mom got me through anything I felt was too much for me. Pregnancy is temporary, being a mom is forever. Keep that in your mind. Congratulations and best of luck. May you be blessed with a healthy and happy baby.

Of my four pregnancies, I worked for two of them, stopping three weeks before the baby was born. Out of financial necessity.
Two of my pregnancies I didn't work at all - outside the house, I should say. Everybody is different and pregnancy affects us all in different ways. You must be your own judge and not allow others to pressure you into doing something you don't feel up to.

Its not easy but i preferred the time off to enjoy afterwards and to be honest towards the end you feel so big and down it was good to work to keep your mind off things plus i do think it helped me recover afterwards!!

I was supposed to give up work 11 weeks before the baby was due, but I stayed on an extra two weeks to train my replacement.

i work with adults with autism who can be violent at times so i had to tell my work straight away. eventually they put me in the kitchen so i was away from the students. it was still pretty heavy work and through june/july.eventually i left 10 weeks before my baby was due, she came a week early though. im really glad i finished that early it gave me plenty of me time to prepare for the birth. like going shoppin for new 'hospital' pj's and dressing gown and some lovely girly toiletries.
