There are many books about this, but one of my favorites is the French classic, "Le Grand Meaulnes," also known as "The Wanderer," by Alain-Fournier. It's a very beautiful story of love found, lost and regained, but -- as befits such a story -- it ends sadly but beautifully.
It was made into a film as "The Wanderer" in 1968 and has just been done again. Both are in French.
Hope this helps!
