First of all, either take it out, or put it back properly, cause that's not a good idea.

Generally the more RAM, the better. The only time you may not want to put an extra stick of RAM in is if changes the RAM from running in Dual Channel mode. You can usually check this out if the RAM slots on your motherboard are 2 different colours (blue & black).

If they are all the same colour (if its an older motherboard) put it back in.

You could always try upping the virtual memory of your PC, using the hard disc as RAM.

Generally the more RAM, the better the performance, but you need a decent processor to match it to notice any real gain.

As was already pointed out, RAM doesn't come in 300's. It could come in 256's or 512's. Depending on your computer, it may have to take pairs. If there are four slots, you might only be able to use either 2 only or all. The RAM might also have to be all the same, so if you have one 512MB stick of RAM, you would need a second 512MB to make them both work properly.

That is a couple of things that might be wrong. Hope it helps.

the more ram, the better but 900mb? very odd! usually it goes like 8 > 16 > 32 > 64 > 128 > 256 > 512 and so on....

Considering the "free space" allocation, your 1 GB RAM capacity will show as 960 RAM, since 64 MB is taken for the "zero sector". That's not at all abnormal.
However, that you haven't inserted the 512 MB stick correctly [18 pin, right?] is alarming. It could cause a lot of problems. So, please insert that correctly.

It would be advisable to insert the last 512 MB 18 pin RAM into the remaining slot to get optimal output.

Cheers.

You have 900 normaly? Thats an odd number for RAM...but to answer your question, the more RAM you have the better performance when your running multiple programs, or maybe have a couple of windows up. If your computer is using a lot of RAM, restart it, it will refresh the RAM. And if its still using a lot run a spyware / adware program and clean your computer up!

900mb is indeed a small number. i'd suggest you make sure all the sticks are the same speed. if they are not the same speed then they will always only run as fast as the slowest stick

More ram will always improve performance. It is not a good idea to have ram "not properly plugged in". You should fix it or take it out.

The less RAM = slow shitty computer!!!

RAM Modules are usually installed in pairs. You may require another module or a blank to pair up your odd module.
