I don't think stamps are worth much really, unless they are rare or in mint condition. They also have to be unfranked. It may be worth asking your local antique dealer.

Most (there are a few exceptions) stamps are worth much more to collectors if left on the envelopes. The exceptions are oversized or damaged envelopes. Most common stamps of this era are worth little regardless, but there are many churches and other charities in the UK who would be delighted to have them. Or give them to a child to start a collection.
I'm in the U.S., so I can only tell you how things are here, but common off-envelope stamps usually sell for 1-5 cents. The same stamps on cover typically sell for 50 cents to a dollar. More if they are cancelled at a small post office or have been forwarded, returned to writer, etc.

it all depends on wich stamps u have, and in what condition they are,and no dont take them off,you prolly would get a better prize for it,still on the envelopes.
but you talk about stamps about 45 years old..,in stamp terms thats not old at all,and will not have a big value to collectors.
mayby you can keep them for another 45 years, then it could be completely diffrent.

I am sure they will have more value with the covers so do not cut them off. May be you can sell them on E-bay
