I look after an elderly tennis fan, who has asked me to find out, how far Tim Henman has gone, in his recent bout of tennis. She seems to think that he got through to the finals & hasn't heard anything. I have no clue! Can anybody help, to ease a 90 year olds curiosity. thanks

Henman's last event was in Beijing, China, where he was beaten in the final by Roger Federer. He is ranked 40 in the world on last week's rankings. He has three tournaments scheduled for the rest of this year: the Madrid Masters next week, the Swiss Indoors and the Paris Masters.

He's trying to end the year ranked 36 or above, which would guarantee him a seeding at next January's Australian Open.

He was a good top 10 player, but not an elite player the British public paints him to be. If you're Sampras, then grand slams are the barometer. For the rest of the mortals, a grand slam semifinal is already an achievement. Henman had great volleying skills but that's about it - his groundstrokes and serves were average. For such limited skills, he may even be an overachiever for making 4 Wimbledon semifinals and 2 other grand slam SFs.

Henman has recently got a wild card entry at the Madrid Masters and has been in good form, he beat Andy Murray for the first time in four meetings recently so that's good news. One thing is for sure he is going in the right direction.

I'm not sure, but he has not been doing well lately. The last time he won, that I can recall was the 2003 Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington DC. He beat Franando Gonzales to win. I actualy met him at this years Legg Mason Tennis Classic.

Tim has done well in his career, but now he is a past tennis
generation player. Will put up a good performance, but it
will be very difficult to win any tour matches or grand slams.

He is doing well at the moment. He is up to 34th in the rankings and he did get through to the final of the Chinese masters. He also beat Andy Murray in that same event

The answer, as usual, is that he got beaten, so there's no change there is there!
Anybody else with such a record would have got the message years ago !!!

He is on his way back to the top, but I doubt he will reach the top ten once again
