stand by me about the black peoples struggles during the years when segregation was still being used, before racism was actually illegal.

its a great song, but i get the feeling its not actually about a few kids who find a body or get stuck on a traintrack.

I have always seen it as a song about friendship.

true it's subject is not finding a body on a train track but its theme is friendship - a theme it shares with the film on whose soundtrack it appears.

but you are right that the term stand by me is beyond just friendship as it connotes a sensne of unity and standig together and is similar in this way to labbe siffre's 'something inside so strong' (about spiritual struggle against racism and slavery) as well as the slightly lighter-hearted bill withers' 'lean on me' (more about friendship in hard times)

How did you come by that feeling?
Did it have something to do with the fact that the song was written about 20 odd years before the film was made?
