Go and see your solicitor straight away.

A winding-up petition is an extremely serious statement of intent by a creditor in shutting down your company due to unpaid debts. It is the strongest action a creditor can take against your business and is often the natural next step in the debt-chasing process after a statutory demand for payment has gone unheeded.

Since you are in a financial mess I assume that you can't afford to obtain legal advice. In that case just work at getting your affairs in order. Evidence of that will keep your creditors happy. The legal process takes time, so you should use that to straighten things out. Have YOU listened to why you are supposed to owe the £5000 ? If it comes to a Meeting of Creditors (necessary before a winding-up) you will be able to thrash that out.

If you owe money, you know you owe!! you have to pay! They have proof. What can you do? talk to the creditors and ask for more time. But promisse you'r going to pay!!

Just 'cos they petition doesn't mean they'll get it.

You need to see a specialist in bancruptcy law. Before anything happens, get a massive overdraft, send as much money and assets as you can off shore to protect yourself. I hope you don't own a home.
Chill dude, it's only life, they can't kill you, unless you're in a muslim country, or Korea.
