Wow, that is a hard one. Before you start, make sure that you really want him enough to risk losing him as a friend. He may have similar feelings for you but hasn't recognised them yet, or he may be happy having you as a friend and is not really interested in anything more. Often friends who have become lovers and then split up, have lost their beautiful friendship and regret having ever taken it further.
With that warning out of the way. Does he currently have a girlfriend? There is little chance that you will be successful if he has. If he has a girlfriend he may misconstrue your actions as jealousy and you may lose him, she may also interfere.
If he is between girlfriends and you feel that you just have to let him know, then proceed.
Are you honest and open around each other? Can you talk to him about things any time or do you have to set the mood? Choose your time and venue. The best way is to be honest with him and not play games. Chances are if you play games with him, he either won't believe you or he will get scared off.
You can't be sure of his reaction, and he might take some time to get used to the idea, therefore don't panic straight away if he doesn't react in the way you want or expect. If you give him some time to digest the information, and then talk to him again later, you should be able to accept what he tells you as to how he feels and what he wants.
If he doesn't feel the same way, decide whether you want to continue as friends or whether it is too painful for you. Try not to lay blame on either him or yourself. Maybe the time isn't right.
If he does feel the same way, then I wish you good luck together and hope that it all works out for you both.

yes by all means. u could have your soul mate right in front of u.he could feel the same back. some say it would ruin the friendship,but to me there is only one way to live is passionately.cease the day.if he says no,oh well thats life aint it acception and rejection. u would feel a little embarassed but u would get over it.the agony of holding in such a love is torture.get it out.life is too short.tell him.bite the bullet.

i wouldnt say that im an expert.. but ive done it before and all i did was just say it. my friends dropped some hints aswell, maybe if you have got some people who you know wont give it away too much, you could ask them to drop a few. i hope the best works out for you ^_^
