Microgynon has two medications in it to mimic Estrogen & Progesterone.

(20mcg ethinylestradiol and 100mcg levonorgestrel)

Nausea is a common complaint of any pills containing ethinylestradiol. Very rarely does levonorgestrel cause this.

Birth control pills are a mainstay of fighting symptoms of PCOS. They're excellent for regulating menses and fighting unwanted hair growth.

However, other options are available, such as avoiding taking medicine by mouth, which has higher side effects.

Talk to your doctor about Ortho Evra, the birth control patch. It should not have the same side effects. There may be a slightly higher risk of blood clots with the patch, but the increased risk seems to be small.

If you don't have unwanted hair growth, there are many other options to control menses, such as Mirena IUD, progesterone only pills, NuvaRing (vaginal ring).

Excactly what are your PCOS symptoms?

Knowing what symptoms you're trying to control could help me answer better.

I agree with an earlier post about seeing a reproductive endocrinologist. It is my bias that desogen is also a great pill; however, it has never been shown to be superior to others and also carries a higher risk of blood clots.

New data:

Just saw your latest post about the reason you're taking this is for menstrual control. If so, I'd go the non-oral route: NuvaRing or Evra Patch. If you don't like these, try progesterone only tablets. Metformin, as mentioned above may work for you, but it's not birth control (if that's an issue) and it has the highest rate of gastrointestinal side effects of all the options you have.

Microgynon is normally the first pill the doctors hand out, if they make you feel unwell ask to have it changed,

I have PCOS also and have NEVER heard of microgynon.

Desogen (Apri in generic) is the one usually prescribed. I had no problems taking it...in fact, it regulated me and acne cleared up!

See a reproductive endocrinologist. They are better trained to deal with PCOS than your average ob/gyn.
