EMap have sent me a cheque for Initial Redemption. What does that mean? Does it mean I have to sell all the shares that I have with them? What if I dont want to sell the shares now that the option is over have I lost out?

Basically, it says that as a result of the sale of eMap France, it is issuing these B Shares which will subsequently be redeemed at some point in the future for cash. You have no choice whether or nor they are redeemed; your only choice involves WHEN of 3 possible times they will be reddemed, and what the tax treatment of the redemption will be.

If you do nothing, the document states that all of your B shares will be redeemed - free of commission or expenses - on 5 October.

basic rule is that division of shares in A and B is made on market capitalisation of shares.normally big companies falls in A
