I need a portfolio done, I've looked in the local paper but there are no advertisements, altho sometimes there are some. I live in the south London/Surrey area. Hows the best way 2 find an agent?

Agents aren't required, but are helpful sometimes. I did all my work independently however.
A portfolio is the easiest thing to start, because when it comes to modeling, a portfolio is mostly just pictures of you and a list of your info as well as shows you participated in and ads your pics were used in.
Know a friend who's good at photography? Strike a pose. My cousin put my entire portfolio together for me over the course of one weekend at a family Easter get together. She took pics of me posing in different places in the yard and we printed these pics the next day.
If you don't have friends who take good pics, just visit a place where families get their portraits done. When the pics come back, just type up the remaining info and put it all together.
As for an agency. It would be easiest if you joined a beauty pageant or something. I entered Sunburst here in the States. I also sent an e-mail to Barbizon and they hooked me up with other invite only pageants and the such. Like I said, look for something similar to Barbizon in your area and make the call.
I personally never took off because I became a compulsive eater when I got married. Better luck to you.

My very first words to you will be ' Be Careful' and take caution not to get involved with modeling scams that want money from you to do portfolios etc .
Your very first step is to learn how to make the most of yourself , your looks and find your very own style and colours . Go to an Image consulatnt and have your colours , cosmetics and style analysis sorted out so that you will know how to look your absolute best .
Then get some photos sorted out and they don't have to be the most professional in the world either to look fab ! If you get a very trusted friend with a good quality camera you can take some good photos ! Then try to do as much voluntary work as you can to get your name in the papers to get exploitation.
There are lots of things that you can do to get noticed if you use your imagination and make lots of contacts , approach some modeling agencies and look at drama and acting too, karoake etc it all get you in the public eye and that is what you need is exposure , confidence , faith and lots of luck . But remember if it is meant to be it will happen anyway with less effort ..if it is your destiny nothing will stop you from realing your dream and if you want it bad enough no one will stop you ...so go for it girl !! keep in contact & let me know how you get on if you like .

Are we Male/Female A lot of catalogue companies advertise for the type of work you are looking for your local paper or the freebie papers are a good source if your Family are backing you listen to them for advice if you know of a friend who takes photos have a chat with him & to feel safe take a friend along in case you feel uncomfortable finally Good Luck we all try to do something as a necessity to pay the bills whatever you decide do it right & don`t be afraid to say no if an assignment sounds dodgy.

Be very careful. There is modelling and 'modelling'. Being a professional model is very difficult - you need to find a good respectable photographer (use the Internet) to start a portfolio and then apply to respected agencies - again try the Internet.

oh dear.. well i was going to say something tacky like get your kit off..but i realise your quite serious about this.
oh dear, its a nightmare.theres so many dodgy characters purporting to be what theyre not.
legitimate agencies dont want cash upfront, they wont invite 30 mates to your photo shoot... and they dont take advantage...
all you really need to get started is about 10 photographs, 10x8.
head and shoulders, full length frontal, and back views. 45 left and 45 right. (sideways on) and dependent on what sort of work youre after, maybe a bikini shot or two.
thats enouggh for any agency to look at. if they want more, they wil lask for them, and pay for them.
seedy dagenham snappers love gullible girls... most of the time its a big con.. you pay, and all they give you is promises.
you dont need an agency photographer to send in samples..
just good, well framed, and exposed photos..and nowadays anyone with a good digital SLR can do that. and the agencies advertise in trade papers.... send them your photos, and wait..
good luck... oh, and you mustnt have any blemishes, scars, or skin abrasions... you must be perfect, and pure... it says on all the offices, no dogs allowed...
be lucky and careful... take your dad or mum with you... yes it is that seedy, and if they dont want mum or dad attending, then the guys a perv... he may well have a camera in one hand, but whats in the other?

1st of all make sure ur unique n love u n ur own style. y not get an agent search the internet or vist modeling agencies, any. but make sure you look great they look at every thing from your nails 2 ur height. good luk. XxX
