Any bra that is too tight is restricting circulation and provides a place for toxins to build up. If the underwire pokes you on the side then you are wearing too small a cup size. If the next larger size doesn't fit right you need to ditch it for something else that can support without the wire and without being too tight.
It doesn't seem to be the wire itself, it is the too tight fit that causes problems.

Wearing something constricting is unnecessary, you need to allow circulation.
After my mom got breast cancer my sister asked me to research the causes. She doesn't have a computer and doesn't want one. So I did it for the ladies in my life.
I learned that one of the preventable causes is underwear that fits too tight! Underwires are highly suspected to be part of the problem and push ups that are too tight as well.
A professional fitter wrote on a website that at least 60% of women who finally come to her after being uncomfortable for years are wearing improperly sized bras. Usually the number size is too large and the cup too small. That means there is not enough circulation in the breast tissue and that can cause toxins to build up which leads to cancer.
Typically a woman who visits her has a strap that creeps up in the back, the front slides down so the tissue is compressed in the cup. The number size is too large and there is no support from the band. The cups are too small because that is what women get used to as they develop.
Example, a woman came to her wearing a 36 B. After evaluating her the fitter suggested a 34 C. The customer was amazed at how much more comfortable it was. It was a bit tighter around the rib cage than what she was used to but it stayed in place and was actually more comfortable after a full days work.
Another was wearing a 38B but needed a a 36 D and the list goes on.
A professional fitter can benefit most women who think they know what they should wear, but haven't the expertise to analyze their needs.
My sister went to one and ended up buying several new items that fit better and she now sleeps wearing just a t-shirt.
Cotton is the healthiest fiber to wear that close to the skin. It breathes better than nylon, and other synthetics.
Bottom line.................... too tight is not good.
Cancer is horrible stuff...................

I have heard to not wear them, but can't remember if I wore them when I got breast cancer. I think I was, but there are other things more influential to your getting breast cancer. I would lay low on the estrogen, because mine was estrogen positive, meaning it was thriving off the estrogen. Also, try to stay as calm as possible, as they have found stress can bring it on too. Try to eat well, plenty of broccoli, as that is a cancer fighter. Exercise, just walking is good for your heart too. Get mammograms every year, and also do the self exam. Just beware of your body. I found it when it was very early stages, I could not have felt it, so that is why the mammogram is so important. Also cut down on the red meat, who knows what all they put in that and it is not good for your heart. Too much, I mean. Good luck and I hope that I have helped you too. Just get a good support bra and leave the wires alone, except for special occasions, to be on the safe side. I personally do not know the c onnection, but yes I have heard that too.

If it's a normal bra and the material doesn't contain anything radioactive you should be fine.
Exposure to Ionizing Radiation and substance that cause cancer (Carcinogens) increase the likelihood that you'll get cancer. And especially with breast cancer, if a member of your family has had breast cancer (Sister, Mother, Aunt), the chances of you getting breast cancer and more likely. Do a self breast exam to check for lumps and have a regular mammogram to screen for anything so that it can be treated early.

As part of my ongoing treatment for breast cancer I was told not to wear tight fitting or underwire bras. Not sure why though so I'm guessing there may be some link. Maybe its just people who have already had it. Best advice - stay away from the contraceptive pill & HRT. Check once a month (mid cycle) & dont miss your mammograms.

I don't believe this to be true. I'm 49 and I have been wearing wire cupped bras and I'm fine.
