Polishing Apples
A young man asked an old rich man how he made his money.
The old guy fingered his expensive wool vest and said, "Well, son, it was 1932. The depth of the Great Depression. I was down to my last nickel."
"I invested that nickel in an apple. I spent the entire day polishing the apple and, at the end of the day, I sold the apple for ten cents."
"The next morning, I invested those ten cents in two apples. I spent the entire day polishing them and sold them at 5:00 pm for 20 cents. I continued this system for a month, by the end of which I'd accumulated a fortune of $9.80."
"Then my wife's father died and left us two million dollars."

Your story is a little defeatist, but you can make a million. You need mostly time and discipline. Its kinda boring, but its how most made it. Invest and watch it grow.
You can go on www.fool.com and there is a calculator that will tell you how long it would take to make a million if you plug in certain variables.
I'm not at the million mark yet, but I am pretty much on my way.

My first million what?
My first million friends I made by being a friend.
At a funeral, you will never see an armoured car with the money that the deceased has left, but you will see the friends that the deceased has collected in life. Which would you prefer to leave? Think about it before you answer.

HAHA. That's about it.
It takes money to make money. It would be hard to make a million on an average salary unless you had a million to start with due to theory of interest, taxes, and rich competitors.
