They probably would nowadays, but this is since England has become so contaminated with american ways. I can remember a time when you were safer with the British police than with anyone, even if you were a crim.

The guy with the chair leg deserved to be shot, he had it hidden telling eveyone it was a gun and he was going to shoot.
I think we are making the job of policing this too difficult, if someone had a gun pointed at me there wouldn't be one seconds consideration if it was real, i would take them down.
Police have an extremely dangerous job as it is, do we expect them to take a bullet beofre they return fire just so they know it's for real?
Armed Police are still an unusual sight in the UK and we are all the better for it but there needs to be a balance and at the moment it is leaning towards the criminal who has all sorts of weapons.
The Brazillian being shot was an unfortunate event but he shouldn't he even been in this country, if he hadn't been here, if he hadn't run just after major terrorist events then it wouldn't have happened.
My opinion is, anyone waving a gun around, threatening to shoot should get a bullet in the head even if it was real or not.

Running from police implies you have something to hide, you are guilty of something.
All you have to do is put those hands up and talk it out. IF you are innocent, no problem.
What I suspect is that some countries have police who make people disappear and when people from those countries come to England, America, etc. they fear the police because of what happens at home.
Police could learn to hit the shoulder or a leg, that usually takes the fight out of the average person. Often they will drop the weapon by accident when that bullet slams into them. There is even a bean bag shell for shotguns that packs a terrific wallop up close but doesn't normally kill. I would think they could use that more often.

at first, the police do no longer 'shoot to kill.' the only justification for shooting is to end somebody from committing an act that ought to kill or heavily injure the officer or a 0.33 occasion. If it kills the project, that's no longer the officer's situation, legally or morally. As for the project working away, maximum departments have very strict rules on shooting a fleeing individual, even theory the act of fleeing is and of itself, a legal.
