Sometimes its your closest friends that mess you over the most when it comes to stuff like that. Family too. They keep stuff forever, or the mess it up and think its ok. And then you dont want to ruin a friendship over it so you just dont lend it out to anybody.

Seperation anxiety too..lol. I dont like to part with stuff i spent good money on. I like to protect my investments. But no really..friends lose stuff, forget about it, break it, and think its ok. So we just dont. Sorry.

maybe they have some unpleasant experiences with lending things to others? like not returning/scratching.. or sometimes, esp close friends, they'd lend it yet to other friends without asking, cos they think meh, it's my close friend's, he/she wouldnt mind ;-) and a lot of the times the cd/dvd get lost this way... i dunno!? if you really wanna borrow it then maybe sign a contract or pay a rental fee :P

okay there are so many reasons and so little time so lets go with the top 3
# 1 music is very important to me and i never own a cd that doesnt really mean something to me so speaking out of experience when a friend just takes my cds and wants to copy them off i feel like their just invaiding my privacy and well just taking pieces of my heart
# 2 heck its just the fact that you might screw it up and then we have to go throught the whole deal of you replacing it..... nop waste of time just get ur own
# 3 hell i'm just plain selfish........ nah you think of one............ then........ get back to me...... an we'll see just how smart you really r
