Do you think that computers will ever get so sophisticated that we will one day be able to replicate the "Holodeck" from "StarTrek"? Do you think that we will ever get to that stage?

holo deck isnt a computer technology, we could run one with todays computers (it would take a lot of them and some sophisticated programming but we could run one) but the underlying basis of the holo-dwck is based on transporter technology, making solid objects for people to interact with.

Gaining Transporter technology requires a much greater understanding of physics and for the laws of physics to work in a way that will allow it.

i think we will gain the required understanding of physics eventually to know if it can be done or not, but thats a couple of hundred years away in my estimation. (but breakthroughs can happen)

Most assuredly they will. The Japanese have already experimented with 3D Holograph projection and broadcasting. Given the rapid evolution of computer development and processing power it is likely that within the next twenty years the Holodeck scenario will become a reality.

I certainly hope so, although I doubt it'll happen in my lifetime.
