Americans seem to think that it costs so much to travel over seas when they will spend more just living in america than they would over seas. I have been to at least 13 countries, and I am just a bartender that knows how to save money. I really wish more americans would realize that traveling is educational, and rewarding. It's the best thing for a childs eduaction, it gives them experience, culture, and great people skills. Americans are the only one's who find so many excuses to not travel out of the country, and I mean really go places not just Mexico, Canada, Bahamas, or even Western Europe. Not many will visit third world countries unless they go to war, are in some religious mission group, or the peace corps.

That is interesting.

But one doesn't need a passport to travel into Canada, Mexico, or the Carribean although they're tightening up those loopholes.

I agree with most of what you said, but when it comes down to it, the US is a HUGE country and there's a lot to see and explore. So with the cost and risk of going abroad, can you blame the average person for staying domestic?

As someone who's been all over Asia and Europe and has spent a lot of time away from the States, what I really want to do is block off a month and drive cross country and see the states. Not many Americans even do that and they live there.

It is a surpise to most people that I tell about the fact that only 15% of Americans have a passport.

Some American tour operators have even run promotions to pay for thier passports to get them to leave the country. The number of Americans getting passports is on the rise but due to the current world issues, this will probably slow down Americans wanting to travel to other countries.

That many, it is surprising. Maybe they are so happy and content with their lives and do not want to see anything else. Hallo! they are living in what the world see as thè country of the world, everybody else is copying and watching them all the time. All the movies are from there and every teenager wants to be like them. Why should they want to see anything less than what is best?

I't hard for me to believe that only 15 percent of Americans have passports. I have one! I live in Oregon. My first trip out of the country was in New Zealand, my second was Germany, My third was Belgium. On My third trip, I frew into Germany and had a family that I met there pick me up at the airport and drive with me to Belgium to meet other friends. I am invited to come again in the summer of 2007. I have met wonderful friends. Makes me feel so fortunate...

do you think maybe the other 85% are just happy living and travelling within america?

Because you have travelled to 13 other countries I suppose that makes you 13 times better than anyone else.

If a californian travels to New York for holiday the money stays in america, maybe New yorkers aren't portuguese but it is a little different.

Why see anywhere else until you have seen america?

I don't see a reason to go over there. Never lost anything there. They don't think highly of us so I don't see the point. More people will have to have passports before long if they plan to go to Canada. So for me, I don't see the point of laying out that much money to see something over there when there is so much to see and do here.

I would say to use very good manners when traveling abroad, also, Most of the world hates us, because of the actions of our government, and a few rude travelers. Be respectfull, and curious, and mannerfull, when traveling, and maybe other countries will start liking us again.
