what would be the minimum set of molecular functions required for a simple life form to grow under laboratory conditions..?

The link below refers to a famous experiment (Miller-Urey) and later ones also which demonstrated how the early atmosphere could form amino acids from simpler building blocks which presumably could join together to form what we now know of as life.

ingest nutrients.
produce or absorb and transform energy.
dispose of waste.

Personally I would like some recreational activities added in, but that may be considered above the minimum by some.

No sure what you mean. You need nutrients, oxygen and water as a general comment. Even oxygen is not inevitably required
