I think you have already answered the question in most humble and simple way.
Cricket is a great leveller. But Indians do have work to do but everybody has to find time for recreation. The craze of soccer in Europe and Latin America is huge. Stands are always occupied. If you go by the % of population, Eurpeans do devote a lot more time in re-creation.

I agree with you my friend. A lot of people from other countries think that Indians don't have anything to do and that's why they time watch a lengthy game like cricket. I think football is very boring because when you watch football goals are the only thing that creates some sort of interest and even those are very few and far in between. But when you watch cricket every ball anything can happen. There is always that uncertainty involved in cricket which makes the game more interesting. What I like about cricket is its unpredictable nature. On a given day, even an average team like Bangladesh can beat Australia which they have in the past and this is what makes it a treat to watch.

i think it was something that was easy for each generation of children to pick up on and to play to pass the time. It was something that the Brits took over with them and the Indians adopted as their own - i think they used to play it with a thick stick - which was heavy enough to hit the item they would have used as a ball. Some people in India weren't wealthy enough to afford a Tv or anything, so i think they'd all gather round a person who had a TV to watch cricket on - from there , they probably learnt the rules better and started adding their own uniqueness to the game. Then most of India went even more cricket mad after India won the cricket world cup in 1983 - which was arguably the golden moment for indian cricket.

Cricket used to like god in India. The things are changing. There has been too much of it in the recent past and rather overdose of it. We love anything which is scarce, the more the demand when supply is less. when supply is more, the demand takes a second place and starts loosing its charm. thats what is happening to cricket.
the game has all ingreidents to pull one and all to it, but more sugar leads to diabetes and spoiling the taste. hence it should be right dose. we love cricket but let there be no overdose of it.

disqualities:
1. tourism of one team with another team. why there are only two teams playing, other teams are resting?
2. duration of match is five days (or) 1 day. how longest time it is? lot of time is wasting.
changes of cricket to popularize in my view:
1. no tourism of two teams. only world cup for four years. with that indian cup, australia cup, west indies cup, england cup, south african cup...etc will have to be conducted with six months gap upto world cup.
2. no test matches.
3. no one day matches.
4. only 20-20 matches.
5. every nation must have only one colour of dress without any colour mixing.

Up to some extant they are right but one has to ignore those kind of statements because if you think you enjoy it you are RIGHT.
