What is Masculine? Who is masculine and why?
I am asking these question, because I am curious to see what your opinions are. Feel free to list your gender or nongender identification if you wish.

Please consider giving explanations and detailed answers. Vague answers honestly don't explain very much.

I would say that masculinity is basically a social construct.

As to how it's constructed currently and historically in the US, one could look at literature, film, music, etc. to get plenty of details.

I would say that there is no technical definition. It would be defined by conventional wisdom. Because most people view masculine behaviour as being tough, strong, stubborn, unemotional and aggressive, then that's basically what it is.

Of course some folks will come along and say 'oh, it's so masculine when a guy does this... or that...', people will have their own opinions, but overall it is still conventional wisdom. And it'll differ somewhat in different cultures, too.

Someone like The Rock is masculine. Also, a gay guy like De Niro could be considered masculine, but not someone l'nancy' ike Boy George.
