Yes.
People speak in the way they do because they want to be identified with certain groups. If they don't want to be a member of a certain group, they can unconsciously stop talking like that group and start talking like another group.

I'm an Australian, I spent a year in Texas when I ws 13/14, a year and a half in Hong Kong when I was 16, and 2 1/2 years in England. When I first got back from the UK, people thought I was British, now I've settled back into the local lingo, people often think I'm a New Zealander rather than an Australian. It doesn't take too long to pick up the accents of your surroundings.

I do that! I grew up in Canada, and spoke with a thick Canadian accent. Back then, I didn't even know Canadians 'talked funny'. Then I moved to Southern California where people tend to speak with an accent that incorporates a Paris Hiltonesque drawl, valleygirl, stoned surfer, and even a sort of Hispanic nasal-like 'twang' mixed in for good measure. When I'd visit Canada, all of my friends were amazed at my new southern cali accent, which unbeknownst to me, I'd picked up, after living her for over ten years.
But now I find myself talking like a Canadian again. It's quite unintentional, as it just comes out...or shall I say oot! Very strange.

It is absolutely possible!! I myself pronounce a lot of words differently than most people in my area. Sometimes its because of the way your parents talk or it can be from people that are regular influences in your life (ie: your parents friends, your friends, relatives, etc) For instance, I live in NC so most ppl have prominent southern accents. Instead of saying the word on like 'OWN' I pronounce it like you would the word dawn (awn) basically I use "PROPER" english and pronounciation of my words. IM NOT A REDNECK. Its normal and actually a lot better when you don't talk like everyone else. It makes you stand out more and catches others' attention a lot quicker!!!

Absolutely. I tend to undergo the opposite process and pick up the accents of people I'm speaking to.
