Not all Americans are. Unfortunately, a large majority are treated like mushrooms (kept in the dark and fed B/S all day) by successive administrations and have very little knowledge of what is happening in the rest of the World.
Whilst I agree with the basic thrust of your question; I find it highly risky of you to call others dumb in such a generalised way when you patently have little or no grasp of the written word.
Ergo: - Why are Americans such dumb, brain washed puppets? They believe in everything their Government and the Government owned media tells them. It is no wonder the rest of the World thinks as it does about Americans. The rest of the World is given the truth.

i'm American, i'm neither dumb or brainwashed. i do keep up with world news from sources other than American media. (the glory of the internet!) i also think that GW Bush is a complete idiot...he should've never been president, and quite frankly i think he talks out his a**. does that give me cause to not support the military personnel who are obeying his orders? not at all. you say that every other country isn't lied to...well then you are in for a sad wake up call....your media is just as controlled if not even more so. we have freedom of speech, i can't think of any other country that has that! so why not take a peek into what you are missing where ever you are, you aren't getting the full story either! you believe what you are "brainwashed" by your government and media show you or teach you as well!

I am American... Unfortunatly I have to agree with you. People in this country are clueless,... just look at some of the answers above! It's generations of lies upon lies and omissions upon omissions... Americans are easily pursuaded by the media outlets! We have so many distractions we couldn't care less about politics. Those of us who care about politics become attached to either being Conservative or Liberal, and that takes away from our ability to see the big picture.

Well, I agree with you in one aspect. Most Americans are in fact dumb and brainwashed by the government. I disagree that the rest of the world is not. Every country on the planet has is faults and weaknesses. Take a look at your own and concentrate on that.

The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance -- it is the illusion of knowledge. You know not of what you speak. Making broad statements about an entire population is a sign of incomplete thought......of course the U.S. has it's share of ostriches, but what nation doesn't?
