Is it possible for her egg cells to be fertilized by 2 different sperm cells resulting to 2 fertilized egg but different sperm cells. If so, do we call the babies identical twins or fraternal twins or not at all?

When more than one egg is fertilized in a woman by more than one partner in a short period of time, it's called superfecundation. It can happen to rape victims or anyone else who has had more than one sexual partner during ovulation. A mother who carries two children created from two different eggs is fraternal twins. Since only one sperm can fertilize an egg, identical twins would be impossible from this mating combination. Supposedly superfecundation happens in 2% of fraternal twin births. I'm not sure how I feel about this statistic's truthfulness, but the source is provided below for you to decide on your own.

Some of the info above is incorrect.......after one sperm fertilizes the woman's egg......the remaining sperm DO NOT die IMMEDIATELY.

Sperm can live within a woman for up to 72 hours after deposited. They aren't genetically coded to just "die" after one fertililzes an egg, so they could concievably swim over and fertilize any other sneaky little eggs that are within the vicinity.

And in the case of two seperate eggs fertilized by two seperate sperm......they are called fraternal twins. They don't have to look alike. Only identicals are identical. Fraternal are siblings but not carbon copies of one another like identicals who are two individuals who split from one fertilized egg.

it is possible judging by the fact that once one sperm cell meets an egg, the rest die immediately. thers is only one case i have heard of. it happend in germany and (get this) one of the baies wazs white and the other was black. and finally yes they would probably develop at the same time thus they can be called twins but they would defintelty be fraternal twins.

Well apparently this IS possible. I'm still confused about it myself. They are called fraternal twins.

It is extremely rare, but possible. I do not know if they would be considered twins though, have to find that one out as well.

I don't usually carry a cell phone but on the rare occasions when I do, I have it on vibrate and keep it in my pants pocket.

yes, there was a case not too long ago(can't remember her name) of a woman who gave birth to twins, one was black/mixed, and one was white. she wasn't raped though, she was cheating on her husband
