Sure, I suppose, although I can think of many things that are higher on my list. If he liked bad poetry I don't think it would necessarily be in his favor.

his poetry has absolute nothing to do with his looks or demeanor,he can read you a wonderful poem or listen to one and then turn on you and cuss you to the pit of doom.

Absolutely. I think it implies that he has depth and philisophical insight. (granted, that's not always the case......)
