They got some veterns who had some respect in the league like Ivan Rodriguez and from the n got some great, young pitching .........that I wish the Yankees had................................ and after that they got people who can bring in runs and topped it off with a good manager which will equal for this season a World Series appearance against the New York Mets and the have a very good chance of winning with the type of pitching they have.

The Bottom line is Dave Dombrowski, who took over for Randy Smith, perhaps one of the worst GM's ever and ran the franchise into the ground in the early 90s.. letting players like Luis Gonzalez go for Karim Garcia.. He destroyed the minor league system.. virtually every one of his first round draft picks never even sniffed the majors and ended up on the shelf with arm trouble.. Mike Illitch, who admits he knows little about running a baseball or hockey team, relies on those around him to do it for him.. but Pizza Mike, who tends to be loyal to his employees finally fired Smith (or alllowed his contract to expire) and went after Dombrowski who did his undergraduate work in this area.. Dombrowski allowed the major league club to suffer while restocking the minors through the draft, rule 5 and waiver wire.. One of his first moves five years ago, claim a young outfielder recently released from Texas.. That young outfielder, Craig Monroe, now has 3 post season dingers.. When he hired Alan Trammell, Kirk Gibson and crew, it was the right move at the time.. both could 'deflect' the bad baseball and help teach the team about being major leaguers.. problem was Trammell was not a good game manager, and when the Tigers showed life last year, but tanked it in September, it was because Tram had lost control of his clubhouse.. His time had come and gone, now it was time for a field general, aka Leyland.. no nonsense, have fun, but play hard and play to win, don't play not to lose.. Most of us in Detroit sensed we were turning the corner.. we just expected it to be in 2007, not 2006.. as good as this club is right now, there are potentially better players in the minors a year or two away from joining the big leagues.. remember the name Cameron Maybin.. He'll push Granderson to left or right by 2008

They have a great manager, and they have come together to work as a team. They have great pitching, drive, desire, determination, and they are just very good. They deserve their wins. They have worked hard to get where they are. A's have pretty good pitching but my Tiger's are just better. Will it last? I am not God I can't say but I can pray that it will. I can pray that they will go all the way to win the World Series. I am a die hard Tiger's fan even when they were doing bad a few years ago, I never gave up hope. GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

They got their act together. They were pretty much the top team for most of the regular season now it looks like they are going to the World Series for the first time in 20 years.
Of course they have one more game to win but its seems unlikley that Oakland will be able to come back from 3 to 0 lead, unless the Tigers just fall apart but i dont see that happening

Jim Leyland is an excellent motivator and got the tigers to work together, as a team, and play small ball excellently.

My Favorite Subject!
Gee, I could ramble on and on and on!!
David Dombrowski is what's going on.
He's been GM since 2002.
He is also President & CEO
Dombrowski has been busting his butt for the last 4 years making trades, signing free agents, scouting players, signing those scouted players.
And then, the best move he ever made....
He brought in Jim Leyland.
