Look , how each one is looking at this question!
As for me the difference is only in degree.
If I am hungry and am looking around to eat I can have something to get over my humger.
If , I am completely famished, starnded in a desert, I will settle for anything to eat. I will not be choosy.
Food or eating is not exactly a telling comparison. , though it will help in understanding. If you will apply to people needing hope in their lives the impact of understanding this can assume a larger proportion.

Something refers to a selected thing. Anything is refered to as anything you want. For example, can I have something means give me something. Don't I get anything, means don't I get something. Where something is anything refer to anything you want will be eventually something.

Lots of differences !
Something... presupposes some idea of what it is, based on atleast some imagination..
Anything... is just foreclosing even the attempt to visualise !
and so on...

Something is used in a positive sentence, anything is used in a negative sentence: I have something. I don't have anything.
It's better to be anything than nothing, however. And, being something is better than being anything.
Something > anything > nothing.

Something is anything that is, whereas anything may well be something that isn't.
For example, we may believe there is something, but in fact there may not be anything.
