Is it okay for my 97 Mercedes E320 to mount new tires of 205/60/16 instead of 215/55/16 O.E. size? Will those new tires rub against the edge of car?

im 99% sure they will not rub, but not knowing your wheel gap i'll let you know that

205/60/16 would be read as

205 millimiters wide.
60% of 205 which is 123 is the sidewall height
and the inner tire diameter is 16" (size of your rims)

215/55/16
215 mm tread width
118 mm sidewall height

so the 215's are actually lowerprofile, they will deffenitly fit

( you could of also gone to sears ...)

It may not be EXACT but it is considered to be an exact replacement. No it will not rub or be a problem. It will be VERY close to the same diameter and width.
