that depends on the person... all i do is tell them that we can only be friends... some people accept defeat gracefully so those who do remained my friends while those who don't get snobbed (no use wasting time to those kind of people)

Sure...most of us have had someone of the opposite sex express interest in us that we did not want to return....but honesty is what I recommend in this situation. Being honest is a way of showing respect in my view. It's flattering to know someone 'digs us' --isn't it? But the quickest way to turn a 'potential friend' into a 'foe" is to mislead, and let them humiliate or embarrass themselves by continuing the 'chase' or 'pursuit'--and who has an ego so big that calls for allowing someone to do just that. Others can handle us being straightforward....we only convince ourselves that the 'interested party' will fall apart if we play it straight. Do you respect this person, hold a grudge and desire to wait until they see you out with that other (drop dead gorgeous date) person until they have a clue, or what. Face it...you're the one caught up here....save face yourself....give some brief explaination why they fall into the 'inappropriate category', and maintain some dignity. What goes around comes around.

Be honest with them. Cut if off early. Don't take advantage of the situation.

I would be honest so that person isn't in the dark. Maybe you'll find a friend. In the end, only kindness matters! :)

was nice but not flirty in the slightest way, asked me out, told him that i would be happy to meet him somewhere, but only as friends and made sure he knew that. We laugh about it now...

I would start by saying that youre flattered but then, just say he/she is not your style or you "dont feel any chemistry going on."
