She was the only English speaker. She asked to move groups, was accused of being racist, taken to the headteacher who called the police. The girl was taken to Salford police station and held in a cell for 5 hours after being body searched. The police did not press charges but the head teacher will not let the matter drop.
I would love to hear other peoples reactions please.

Check yesterday's Daily Express, page 6, I believe. I am not instigating hate. The headteacher who called the police had an english name.

Thanks Graham, I was beginning to doubt myself, it is so awful.
I wonder if Australia or Canada would accept me as an immigrant?

Yes, got the story in both The Daily Mail and London Metro.
What struck me as strange about this story is that you've got to take it in your mind to Welsh speaking Wales. Let's suppose an English family, mum dad and two kids, decide to move to a part of Wales where Welsh is the most used language. When the children go to school, they will be expected to learn Welsh, they will actually have no choice because in that part of Wales where the Welsh language is dominant, everything, learning, culture and general argument of the day, is done in Welsh.
Also, going back a long way in time. My grandfather, who was born in and lived in Welsh speaking Wales, was forced to wear a heavy wooden placard on his chest, for daring to speak his own native Welsh language in his own country of Wales.
What happened to that 14 year old English girl, reminded me very much of what once happened to my grandfather.
I think it is an utter disgrace and there should be a public enquiry and I mean heads should roll for this. This is England for Gods sake. Whatever can this school be thinking of?
Stories like the one I read in the Mail and Metro, are exactly the sort of thing which is driving the English working class into the open arms of the BNP and who can blame them. The girl in question is the daughter of the English Working Class, her mother is a cleaning lady.
There are only two official languages in UK. The first and dominant and most widely spoken is ENGLISH. The second and oldest since 600AD is Welsh. If you go to a gov.uk web site, you have a choice of English or Welsh.

This is a result not only of legislation that is biased against the indigenous population of this country but also says a lot about the political control of our police forces.
Appointments made and policies determined by Police Authorities create the unacceptable position taken by many forces: Vandalism, damage to property and even burglary are given very low priority whereas the even the sniff of a possibly racist incident or a householder taking any action against a thug will cause an immediate response from the police and CPS.
Few people have noticed that Orwell's 1984 has arrived and the thought police are there waiting for that ill-considered comment or an action that could have racial motivation.

I have looked at the link and read the report.
Never in my life have I read anything so pathetically unnecessary, well possibly except the labour party policy on ethnic minorities.
If the girl cannot understand what the others are talking about because they are talking in their own language, which is what was probably happening, then she was right to ask to change groups. I don't see a problem with that.
Sack this head teacher as an example!
The police officer should be censured for taking the girl to the police station as well. The matter could have been resolved in the school by simply letting her change groups!

I did read this article and I was utterly shocked at the teacher & head-teachers reaction to, what was, a simple question from a young student.
I hope the parents get together and demand that the teacher & head-teacher are sacked!!!
As for the police, they have their hands tied, they could only follow the law which has been introduced by PC, tree-hugging morons who would be the first to cry if it had happened to their child.
Had this been the other way around, there would be marches and riots in the streets now.
PC basterds want a good kicking...

Could it be what the girl said ? Maybe she threatened to hurt the Asians if the teacher would not let her switch groups...
and in light of the recent school shootings the school decided to play it safe ?
why would the cops bodily search her anyway, unless they suspect that she has a weapon on her ?
I seriously doubt it has anything to do with her original complain of being the only English speaker.
Turn it around what if a non-English speaking Asian girl had done the same thing and declared that she just might start using a .22 that she might have on her if her wishes wasn't granted...what would the school do ? I believe they would have done the same thing ( send her to the cops) the only difference would be the news article. It would read "Asian girl threatens to shoot local students."
The media rarely tells the whole story you know....

This is just typical of today's "pc gone mad" Britain.
I am all for the ethnic community, but when it comes to having to change our language to accommodate them, then that's just wrong.
If any one wants to live and work in England they should make at least some attempt to fit in. It wouldn't be allowed any where else on earth - if I was to move to Pakistan I would expect to have to live by their laws and speak their language. By being allowed to use their mother tongue in an English school, these pupils have left a young girl feeling excluded. If it happened the other way round there'd be uproar.
I'm a firm believer in the adage "When in Rome..." It's about time someone got to grips with this lunacy.

I agree with phlodgyb, although I have reservations about how true the story is. How could those children be in a school if they didn't speak English? Let's not get carried away believing what we read in the tabloids. There is probably a great deal more to the story.

I agree with enigma variation's point of view. It is important to realise that the press is often biased, and it can exaggerate. The result is people can be become enflamed and "an outrage" is established.
I have have severe doubts about most journalism in the Daily Diana, sorry Express.

i get the express and i was appalled, can't say whether i know all the facts apart from what was written in the paper, but what i do think is that the parents of the non speaking English should have to pay for extra tuition during school and after school, i would expect the same if i moved country and my children didn't speak the language.
