It totally depends - i worked for orange for three years. The PAC number is techincally free of charge as it is part of your right to cancel within the last 30 days of your contract. you havr to give 30 days notice to cancel with Orange so this maybe what they aer charging you for. However, if you take a PAC number and give this to the other network immeduately they will take the number within 7 days from the rpevious carrier (in this case orange). by doing that you are effectively breaking the terms of ur contract because you havent honoured the 30 days notice as you have ported out to new network before the 30 day period has elapsed. this will show on your monthly invoice as a PAC DEBIT. it cant really be contested as effectively you have broken the terms of ur contract.

the only way you can really fight it is by saying to them that you were not made aware of any fees porting your number from carrier to carrier. what they would then do is look up your account to verify whether or not it was recorded that you were informed of this fee. if you weren't, there's no way they can force you to pay (thereby resulting in a waive of the fee). however, if it was in the fine print of your contract, or you knew about it prior ro signing up with orange, you're unfortunately out of luck. cell phone companies are really out to nickel and dime every customer, knowing that we all don't have too much of a choice in the wireless service provider industry. it sucks, but it happens everyday. i wish there was a better alternative myself...

**wishing you the best of luck, and happy resolving!**
