In my neck of the woods we have mostly darks skies followed by widely scattered light. Light +light can't equal dark because something and something will always equal something.

Light coming + Light falling on an object = Darkness on the opposite side of the object.
50% correct.

If two beams of light hitting an object are exactly the same wavelength and 180 degrees apart in polarity, they will cancel each other out.
