Actually, current cosmology says the universe started as a "singularity," which is much smaller than a "dot."
By methods as yet not understood, this "singularity" came into existence (was created? no, can't say that. Spontaneously generated?), and then exploded, expanding for the last 15 billion years or so. In this singularity was all the matter and energy of the universe as we now know it.
This is called the "big bang" theory.
There is ample evidence that the "big bang" happened, including the "background microwave radiation" which permeates the universe. It's bascally the "aftershock" of the big-bang. The fact that the universe is expanding also tends to support the "big bang."
It may be hard to believe, but that's what science tells us happened.

Current thinking is that the Universe started with the 'Big Bang'. This expanded from a single point or 'little dot' as you say.

Ronin is right in saying that all this happen outside of space-time. The only thing we can study empirically is after the big bang. What I know is that the universe is ~14 billion years old, according to EVIDENCE in the microwave background radiation and the redshift of the most distant celestial objects.
The bible is not a reliable source of science, isn't that the same book in which a snake can talk? And a donkey too!

This is a theory. It is not fact. More and more evidence is mounting against it.
Evolution is also just a theory that many scientists don't agree with.
Teachers, in the face of the politics of their particular school and not wanting to appear rebellious, are very seldom arbitrary in their presentation of information and often fail to present the other side of the coin. Sometimes they teach you what they believe to be true as fact when it is actually not fact. While you have to write down what they tell you in order to get a passing grade, do so with a grain of salt. If you believe everything they tell you, it will take years to get your head screwed on straight.

dunno..but i would not go for the bible for some reason..but actually with the never ending research of scientists..
anyway the unvivers according to the big bang theory ,started as a singularity..that is way smaller than a dot.,it exploded and has been expanding ever since..
but i have read somewhere that this theory is being proved incirrect by several scientists..and a new theory is coming through..that states the unvivers in unchanging
so i guess..believe what you want to

Yeah, it's true. I know it's hard to believe, and many people DON'T believe it, but it is true. Scientists have been able to prove that the universe was at the beginning just a tiny, little dot. Yes, that oversimplifies things a lot to just call it a dot, but that is a pretty good way to look at it.

Does the textbook say that it is a THEORY? That means it's an idea of a scientist, which other scientists agree with. Problem being they can't prove it, It's just a theory! Read the Bible, it will tell you where the Universe really came from!

relies upon on what you mean via dot and how precise you want the answer to be. at the instant there is not any for specific answer, yet as quickly as we assume the super Bang concept is actual than there are 2 achieveable varieties the Early universe might have had: finite and limitless. If the universe become limitless than it would not have been a dot as you may properly think of. If the universe become finite than it must be seen to be a dot, yet in spite of this it won't. it quite is conventional that if the universe is finite (having a series volume of mass) than it is likewise unbounded (there are not any set obstacles). that can assist you carry close this think of I take off from Earth in an extremely rapid area deliver and shop on with an extremely at once direction. After awhile i visit end superb lower back at Earth as long as I shop getting in a at once line. think of an previous video pastime, in case you fly off the actual of the map you reappear on the backside of the map... it quite is like the universe and is why some physicists describe the universe as a loop. So if the universe is definitely finite than it wasn't quite a dot.

Well, it's hard to define little since space-time probably didn't exist yet. But honestly we don't know. It could have been a white hole from another universe, a dot, or whatever, we just don't know

Yes. It was a very small dot. Too small to even be called a dot.
