➔ Government
Let us use an example:
Pres. Bush comes to the Rose Garden and tells us that
"the economy is growing. There are more jobs; unemployment is down; gas prices have plummeted, the price of milk has gone down 24 cents, housing sales are down; the price of heating oil will increase by ony 5% this winter; social security taxes will be increased; federal taxes will increase; state taxes will decrease
these are only examples...
So use tem to offer your understanding of what the "economy" means.
huumm...
Just pretend you are the president. and a reporter asks you to fully explain the "economy" for the benefit of his readers.

it means paying those extra dollars out of your hard earned monies to the US govt. so they can spend more of it bombing other countries, and more of it sending troupes and marines to fight for your interests in Iraq and afghanistaan, (which any way have bearings on your lives) and to the extra security of the Prez of US cause there is the constant threat to his security from the policies he adopts, (which he generally never discussed with you during election time) and the money needed to pump into research to figure out new software to keep tabs on you in many fancy ways(like the USSR did) and for the prisons to run where you will be housed as a non patriotic citizen if you were to exercise your right of freespeech even by mistake against the Prez policies ( of course your Constitution is slightly overlooked in this matter with a national security tag)
Economy also means the toll it takes on your social security, Your medical insurance, your free education, cause money is spent on bringing terror under control, and of course the Prez daughters extra security cause they are potential targets, (remember the british alleigance, To God, My Queen and my country ?) Here its to My Prez, His Crusades, and My Taxes, (Other wise the IRS will rump your pale @ss)
So economy isnt easy see?
You have to sacrifice, and sacrifice.

The overall state of all import, export, trade taxation, lending, employment, unemployment, housing, building.......................anyhow, lot of components, including indicators an other stuff. To use it as a broad based term such as "the economy is growing" really doesn't encompass the sum of all of its parts since housing might be lagging while lending prospers in other areas. It's very VERY up to interpretation due to this fact, so I'd really disregard such statements, especially if they are made by politicians of any affiliation.

Signs of good economy: Stock market at a all time high. Gas coming down at the pump.
This is all that will concern most people.

The value of the dollar and everything we buy or sell.. directly controlled by the price of oil. And how much money your government is paying on interest.. on money they already spent.....
A good economy is like here.. USA.
A bad economy is like Bangladesh.. or apparently Mexico..

For the Bush administration, the economy means the middle-class suffering in order to support big business and govt, so that sheeple can think that everything is fine.

... what... are you looking for a definition... like websters? or what people think it means... or what it means to me?
I mean there are many indicators that people point to when they talk about the economy... but different people put different values on different figures...
maybe one of the strongest is the GDP... gross domestic product... or GNP... or unemployment rate... or trade deficits... or stock market numbers or housing numbers... or tax revenues... or a number of others...
but I guess overall.. it's how the country is doing financially to most people... how do you figure that out? I guess it depends on who you ask... few people probably use the "actual definition" so it's almost pointless to discuss it...
