classified means closed to public only certain ppl can look at them. Unclassified means pretty much anyone can look at them.

Classified documents are so identified with a stamp that says, "Classified: Secret, Top Secret, or whatever level of secrecy the documents require. The federal government classifies all documents one way or another. Later, when they are no longer secret, documents can be downgraded and the media, etc. will have access. Private corporations have their own system, the main concern is that certain communications and documents are termed "For your eyes only," meaning that no one but the addressee has a need to know. Documents can become "unclassified" over time and are so designated.
