Recording tv uses a large amount of hard drive space.
I built a pc using the oem 2005 Windows Media Center Edition software.

The software allows recording tv.
I use Sapphire Theatrix 550 pro TV PCI card
I also use ATI HDTV Wonder. (optional)
I use Western Digital 320GB HD. Late model motherboards with support for 48-bit LBA is needed for hard drives bigger than 137GB.

I think the Sapphire Theatrix card works great for over the air tv.
I can connect my satellite receiver thru s-video, not so great because of s-video limitations.

If they have their own processor to digitize analog tv- or videosignals they are fine. (Example: I use an older model Hauphauge PVR300 and it's perfect for personal use)

you can capture TV input through a PC if you have the proper hardware and software, which will come w/ a TV tuner.
