In the example you have given I think its because the person has an automatic need to look to the right to see what it is he isn't supposed to be looking at. He plans not to look (once he sees what it is he isn't supposed to look at).
When someone's says, "Don't look...." it can come across as kind of "spooky". The person who hears "Don't look..." is kind of worried that the other person sees something "spooky" or "awful", and its probably a self-preservation instinct to want to watch out for oneself. (Someone else here said its not trusting the other person - I agree.)
