Is one better then the other?
I've heard nightmare stories about the line-ups. Is this true?
Are any of the other local amusements better or about the same?
I plan to travel from Canada so I've been considering Disneyland California because it's closer. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Huge difference. I have been to both and Disneyland is a one day thing (with california adventure). DisneyWorld is a week long trip. They have 4 main parks (epcot, magic kingdom, animal kingdom, and MGM) Each one has its advantages. But I highly recommend that you go to Disney World if you can. The twilight zone tower of terror is longer version in world that it the land. And it has many more rides and attractions. As far as the lines go, it all depends what time you go. When I went last time there were no lines in the morning, (off season), but then there are times when it can be crowed but it is the same at both parks. Look into the fast pass. In a nut shell you can make reservations on a ride so you go to the front of the line. Drink a lot of water, but I guarantee you will have a fun time. If you stay at a disney resort in fla. it will be even greater. They have special offers for guests like opening the parks earlier. Enjoy your trip! But again, HUGE difference between the two. Like literally one is land like the little land you live on, and the other one is the WORLD. Like disney world is its own city. It is awesome. I love disney world. Definitely see its a bug's life 3d show. It is really good. And rockin' rollercoaster....

Again...what ever disney land and california adventure offers, you can find it at Disney world...I promise you that. Summer of 04 i went to disney world and summer of 05 i went to the land and it had a sneak preview of what Disney World has. Plus I was disappointed that the rides weren't as long as in the world. if you have the opportunity to go to disney world take it. You will not regret it. If you had to choose between Fla and Cali. choose Florida. They do it bigger and better there! Well, I perfer Disney World in Florida because it has for updated rides and more characters, Diney Hotels, and MORE!!! Or you can find out for yourself, For Disney Land In California: http://www.disneyland.com , For Disney WORLD In Florida: http://www.disneyworld.com . I hope I helped.

Disneyland and Disney World are both very similiar and different. The main difference is Disney World has several areas that you need hopper passes to get into such as an animal kingdom area, etc. The main part of Disney World (from what my mother and a few friends have told me) is the same as Disneyland.

Now, Disneyland has California Adventure within walking distance from the entrance of Disneyland. And I do mean walking distance as it's only a few short steps away. The lines for Disneyland and California Adventure can be long, especially the more popular rides such as the Matterhorn. Last time I went (1-1/2 years ago), the line for the Matterhorn (in Disneyland) was a minimum of 2 hours, the lines for the Tower of Terror (California Adventure) was 1-1/2 hours long. Both parks have the "fast track" system where you an put your park ticket in and it will give you back another ticket with a time to return. Sometimes though the return time can be long. Last time we went, we put our ticket in the Haunted Mansion & Indiana Jones around 4:00pm & 4:15pm (both are in Disneyland). The return time for the Hauanted Mansion was between 7:30pm & 8:30pm. The return time for Indiana Jones was 11:50pm - way to freakin' long! But the "fast track" does work well when you want to "save" you place in line and it gives you a couple of hours to shop, go another short line ride, eat, etc.

If you do go to Disneyland, I would recommend you getting the hopper pass so you can enter both Disneyland and California Adventure as California Adventure (also owned by the Disney Company) has some great rides as well. They have the Tower of Terror, a huge roller coast ride unfortunately the name escapes me at the moment, Mulhallen Drive (another great but small roller coaster ride), the Hollywood back lot, etc.

And off towards the side of the two park entrances is what they call Downtown Disney which is a bunch of shops, restaurants, etc. that run for the two park entrances all the way to the Disneyland Hotel. And if you walk all that distance but don't want to walk back into the park you can hop on the monorail which is at the end by the Disneyland hotel. They also have a movie theater.

And as far as hotels, there are tons to choose from. However, if you want to stay in a Disney hotel, you have the Grand Californian which is connect to California Adventure and you can even enter the park there (it's right in front of this awesome water ride!), there's the original Disneyland Hotel which is at the end of Downtown Disney and you can catch the Monorail to go into the park and the third one use to be called the Disney Pacific and I can't remember what it is called right now. The Disneyland Hotel and Grand Californian are probably the most popular with the Grand Californian being the newest. However, it is more expensive than the Disneyland Hotel and the rooms are much smaller. Disneyland Hotel is less expensive (though still on the pricey side) and the rooms are much larger. Whenever I go to Disneyland I always stay at the Disneyland Hotel. I have stayed at the Grand California but prefer the larger room of the Disneyland Hotel. Just my preference.

Have fun and enjoy yourself!

They're just very very different. Disneyworld is HUGE...really really big. There's several theme parks and it takes quite a while to see everything. It's great if you want to spend a week at the resort.
Disneyland is much smaller, however it's nice to visit the original place! There's two parks there now, Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure. There are park-hopping tickets available so you can go back and forth between the parks, which is really convenient as California Adventure sells alcohol and Disneyland doesn't :)
I've been to both and it's just easier to navigate the California park because it's smaller and there's lots of different lodging places around in all sorts of price ranges and qualities. The nicest is definetly the Grand Californian Hotel, it's got that great old lodge feel and it's the most convenient location in the resort! You have an entrance into California Adventure right inside the hotel!
I hope I've helped!

I will be glad to help you....I live near disneyland and go there several times a week...I know some secrets that may help you....I would get a park hopper ticket for several days...also if you are planning to go I would go on a Sunday Monday Tuesday instead of the normal weekend. Rates are cheaper and the lines arent so long...when you arrive at the park go to Disneyland first...then go to Adventure land (make sure you go when the park opens....) go on Indiana Jones, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, and Splash Mountain...those are the main attractions and are usually very busy around 1 or 2 pm so if you get there early you will have the rest of the day to take in sites and see the parade...after splash mountain you can if you want go on winnie the pooh which is nearby...take the train to tomorrow land and go directly to Space Mountain and get a fast pass (use your ticket to put into a machine usually located right next to the attractions entrance, and it puts out a ticket with a time on it...for example 12:30 -1:30 this is the time you will need to come back and you will be able to walk on the ride rather than stand in a 1 hr line...now what some ppl dont know is that you can come back anytime after 12:30 you dont have to be there in that one hour time frame its good til the park closes that day...) anyhow now that you have been on all the main attractions go have a nice sit down lunch at the blue bayou (make reservations a month before you go call this number 714-781-3463) I have so much more info for you....I love disneyland in California so much better because its so small and easy to get around unlike disney florida....it takes forever to get to one park after another...at Disneyland you can see the other park which actually is a lot of fun too Go on Tower of Terror, Screamin, and Soaring over California...email me for more info... have fun its the happiest place on earth but now they have a new thing its called where dreams come true and these ppl wearing blue jump out of nowhere and give u free stuff they are called the dream team :) anyhow I can go on and on and on and on and bore you sorry....

Disneyworld is nice. I've been there a few times and the lines are far less then the lines at Disneyland. Disneyland is more compact, while World is spread out across several parks. Caliadventure is boring and I personally don't think worth it.

I am going to Disneyland for the 6th time in my life and I can't wait! It is very different as it is not all about the rides (which are great); it is an experience. In Disneyland, one really does feel like a kid and isn't ashamed of it. One of the things I like best about Disneyland is that once you pay to get in, you don't have to pay for anything else except for food and souvenirs. I will admit though that the line-ups CAN be terrible, but that is only on the weekends and holidays. On weekdays, you can mostly just walk on the rides.

Disney World is much better and is bigger with four separate parks. There are long lines but it depends when you go. If you go when there is a break for school over the United states then the lines will be really long. If you go when there is school however the lines are really short. My advice get a fast pass. Disney's ticket to the park lets you get 1 per ride sothey are free and a faster way to get on the rides. In California....... I like Six Flags Magic Mountain which is about a 1.5-2 hour drive away. But if you do go to Disney make sure you get resevations for your resturants that you are eating in because otherwise you will never eat(especially if you are dining with mascots)

disneyland california is great!! i am a season pass holder and go at least once a month. the best day to go is wednesday, the lines are the shortest. longest i've waited is 15 min for space mtn. tuesday and thursday are the next best days to go. friday through monday are the worst days to go. a wait for space mtn. on a saturday can and usually does exceed an hour. disney also offers something call a fast pass. with your entrance ticket stub you can go to kiosks at most of the major rides and get a pass to come back during an hour window later in the day and bypass most of the line. you can only have 1 fast pass at any given time, once you the time starts for the fast pass you can get another one. there is also a park across the entry way to disneyland called california adventure, although its smaller it too is a great park, if you get the chance go on soaring over california, it is one of my favorite rides. you can buy a park hopper ticket that allows you to visit both parks on one day. i highly recommend going. as a season pass holder for the last three years i say it is the happiest place on earth. have fun

I've been to both Disneyland & Disneyworld.
Disneyworld is by far the best there is.
At world you a away from the traffic & you can't see or hear any not disney related sounds.
At land you can see the street & parking lot from several rides which just ruins the magical feel of things.

Hope this helps :)
