There's an 'exclamation point' light on in my car. Oh what ever could it be?

it's a yellow lit exclamation point (!)

need more detail on the symbol. i.e. yellow light with picture of a tire w/ ! in middle, or red light triangle in shape w/ ! in middle. this makes a huge difference.
look at symbol, then look in owner's manual under instrument panel or warning indicators and it'll tell you exactly what's up.

It sounds like the emergency brake is on. Try reseting it. If that doesn't work then take it to a mechanic.

Well since you didn't state what kind of car it is...I would say it is one of those idiot lights. Tells the owner when the car needs attention. Oil, gas, engine trouble, etc....
