Aw, comeon... they challenged some of the absurdity in our society. Dissing political correctness by saying "not that there's anything wrong with that" about 50 times in one show about gays. Mocking the jfk conspiracy theorists with the spitting baseball player. "there were TWO spitters..."
The characters were totally consistent in who they were and it was sometimes an inside joke, seeing one characters facial expression just knowing what he was about to say... the comic timing was great. And the cast really played well off eachother. How many times did Jerry almost bust out laughing?
Also, if you've only caught bits or parts of a show, then you missed the punchline. This isn't a show where you have a bunch of laughs during the show, but where everything builds towards the end. One of my favorites is the one where George pretends to be a marine biologist... of course, true to form, George's lies always catch up to him. What are the chances that he'll be walking on the beach and come upon a beached whale...? Well of course Kramer had been hitting golf balls into the ocean... because, well it was magical in Kramer logic... and the expressions when George pulls a golf ball out of his pocket after recounting his tale of the poor whale's blocked blow-hole. pause pause...everyone looks at Kramer... "eh, hole in one!"
classic.

You obviously do not have any friends, or should I say know any characters that have done some of the things that happened on Seinfeld. Or you could actually picture one of your friends doing.
I'm sure that you have at least one friend who you could envision not being "Master of his domain." Or crazy enough to pull of some of Kramer's stunts. How about a friend who goes thru jobs and women like water???
Or, maybe, just maybe the show hits too close to home on a few subjects, and you don't think they are funny????
I know I tend not to laugh at jokes that others think are funny, because I already thought of it, or did it.
Thanks for the two points

You need a SENSE OF HUMOUR buddy! Lighten up will ya! Yo're too serious. You can't watch Seinfeld when you're in a serious mood. It won't work!
What makes Seinfeld so popular is that you can laugh about life. If you can relate to each of the characters' day to day living in New York City you can't help but laugh.
It makes my day when I'm laughing while watching Seinfeld:)

I stopped watching Seinfeld re-runs for a really long time (years), but I just started watching them again recently. Then out if the blue my aunt made a comment to me that she hated watching Seinfeld because the main characters were SOOO self-centered.
I just politely agreed w/her but I thought, "THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF THE SHOW!"
They really are self-involved and they say and do things the rest of us WISH we could. I mean, we're thinking it, they just made a show out of actually doing it.
And that's comedy, my friend! ;)
Do you like Curb Your Enthusiasm?
That's a great show, too, and it's always about insane situations that life puts us in and how crazy Larry David (the George Costanza character on Seinfeld) reacts to them.

We are Seinfeld addicts in our house, and I think you have to have a certain kind of a sense of humor to "get" the show. My husband and I crack each other up, but most people don't "get" our humor. That's probably the case with you. Nothing is wrong with you :), you just don't "get" it. :)
Seinfeld was voted by TV Guide as the best comedy of all times.

Because have you ever had an everyday experience that just pissed you off, or, you thought, "wow, that is ridiculous?" That is what this show emphasized. It was a show that connected everyday people to each other. A way to, well, relax about the small stuff!

I only saw bits and pieces of a few episodes (with subtitles nevertheless), but it is my understanding that the show portrayed "real" life situations that fans could identify with. I suppose the audience vented vicariously through the episodes.

the honesty of the show made it work. Basically the dy humor and the obvious. Every esp had it own story line which evolved and well the sex also helped.

Yeah...it took me a long while to "get into" it. All my friends were raving about it but I couldn't see what the big deal was. They say it did so well because it was "real". Heck, if some of that was real then I've got no life!

It is probably its very innateness that has made it so popular. It has absolutely no redeeming social value. I used to hate the show, I now watch it in syndication.
