On the same note, why do Latinos feel that it's necessary to ennunciate the correct spanish when giving their names..

Example: Thanks for watching channel 9 news, Dust Bowl, Kansas..I'm Shannon MELINDEZ..thanks for watching..

It is speech pattern developed by hearing their parents speak Spanish.

Even German speaking kids born in this country have a bit of accent when they relax and don't pay close attention to how they sound.

The guys I work with accused me of having an accent when I came back from three weeks in Germany. I suppose I did, I had studied German for several months on cassette and I only heard three people speak English the whole time we were there. One was my wife! If I could pick up an accent in only a few weeks of course those kids will have one too.

I know an Amish family that speaks perfect English to me when I am in their store but when they speak to each other in English I hear a hint of the German accent even now after five generations of being Americans. They even switch back and forth between English and German. I surprised them once by talking in German but they laughed and told me it was "high German" and it sounded snobbish, stuck up.

probably because their parents speak in Spanish in their houses and each country has its own accent so probably when they grew up hearing the Spanish accent plus the English, both together makes that over pronunciation. About the other question, I would just say?? Who cares??!!!! there are more important things than paying attention to that, is like we say something about funny last names like Cook, or the name Dick or bla bla bla bla

ha ha I know I don't! I think its Latinos that are actually born in Mexico that do that!! lol and with regards to the name question, its just the proper way to say the name, same with any other culture! You would pronounce your name exactly the way it supposed to be said right? Same thing.....lol

Check out the scene from 'Training Day', where Ethan Hawke is at the vatos house. "Hey, homes, I got one question for you man". "You ever had your sheet pushed in?".

As Latinos we sometimes segregate ourselves for various reasons and our own unique accent has developed.
