My sister in law did about 7 or 8 years ago. She was moving from Tucson to Phoenix (about 150 miles) when her old, beaten up U-Haul truck broke down in the middle of the desert. We had to wait hours for help, then when they got there they accused her of damaging the truck because there was a piece of duct tape (no more than a foot long) hanging from the corner of the roof of the truck, which was already there when she rented the truck. I can't remember what happened next...but we got here. It was ridiculous though.
OH yeah, and another time before that when I was just moving across town, 18 years old, female, skinny, they give me a big truck with NO power steering, stick shift (I didn't know how to drive a stick at the time) and it was seriously like from the 1960's. I couldn't even steer the thing the wheel was so hard to move. Luckily, I had a boyfriend at the time that drove it for me. If I had been by myself - no way. Why would they rent a POS truck like this to a 'little girl'?

Yes, I had to drive one for some people from northern Ca. to L.A.It shook so bad that I had a stiff neck for two weeks after trying to hold on to the steering wheel. and then while driving back the u-haul was all over the road behind me, shifting weight ands bouncing the trailer all over.....andI thought traffic was light but all the cars were staying away from the erratic driver. They say they maintain the trucks, but I don't think they do as I worked for u-haul and saw what this particular sent people out in and they never explained anything about proper weight distribution or overloading which is so dangeruous.

Yes, the U Haul truck my kids rented this past week end,
My daughter called to get information about renting a truck. The person she spoke with, told her the cost of renting the truck was $39.00 and that she didn't have to have a credit card. When they got there to pick up the truck, they were told that they had to pay $100.00 down, and that the 100.00 would be given back after the truck was returned. They took the truck back on time and it cost them nearly $70.00, because the person my daughter spoke with, didn't bother to tell her over the phone, all the other charges that were included.

Those people are nuts, had a u'haul out of state (moving) and had a minor fender bender. The accident was my fault w/o a doubt. I was insured thru u-haul but when the dust settled I got a bill for a rental that was used by the owner of the other car while his was in for repair. I contacted u-haul to find out why, they did the big corporate tap dance (won't go into all the detail) and I finally had to file in small claims court. When they got served then they paid and that my friends is just wrong.

Two, actually...
When I was in college I was helping my then-boyfriend move from home out-of-town into an apartment off campus, and rented a truck. We went to pick it up, and the place had closed-2 hrs early, so we had to go to another location to get one. While we were loading it it started to rain and the roof leaked so bad we called the rental spot to trade it, and they swore at us and hung up on me. We ended up using aluminum flashing tape (kinda like tinfoil with adheshive backing) to seal the seams enough to move with... We never got any money back for the damage to his furniture...
2- My hubby moved cross country right before we met, and used a UHAUL to do it. His brakes gave out going downhill through the Allegheny mountains on I 81 in PA, and they switched trucks for him. They brought the truck to the service station he was at and left. But no one would stay to help him transfer his things (at 11:30 at NIGHT!) and it took him 3 hs to do it- alone- while the garage staff stood there and watched...

We rented a truck once. Turns out, the people who rented it before us had a pet snake, which crawled out from under the dash while we were driving. Yes, we found it. No reward, but we did get our money back from the truck rental. {after I did some serious bitching} The snakes name, we found out later, was "Hyde". And, no, I'm not bullshiting!

confident... i do no longer understand approximately attempting to tear somebody off (even nonetheless i'm on no account bowled over), yet their autos from my adventure are no longer risk-free and supply you a no longer uncomplicated time and could no longer help out except you get ghetto with them to get them to honor their so-noted as convenience centers (i.e. street-area suggestions, coverage, etc.). attempt a various provider. flow down and look on the autos earlier you settle directly to hire. If the autos do no longer look risk-free or nicely saved, then look someplace else. If there are subjects with fee via way of credit card, merely report a dispute with your credit card organization, and you will be lined there. H a p p y M o v i n g !
