Problem is...this is really two questions. Sorry. :)

1) Is there intelligent life out there on other planets besides earth? My answer to this is most definitely, "Hell yes." I mean, we have found, or at least mathematically inferred the location and masses of, some 200 planets and counting, whose mass and gravity lies between Neptune's and Mercury's...and yep, they are mainly *terrestrial* planets I am talking about here, the larger, "hot Jupiter" style planets don't need to be inferred, they can be spotted by the way they make their star's light shift faintly in orbit....

But yeah. The planets are out there, we keep finding signs they exist and more pop up each day. Sheer probability says at least a handful of them are going to have ecosystems enough like ours to allow for intelligent, social life forms like ours...but.

2) Are we being routinely visited by these alien intelligences? That one is much more doubtful. Distance is a BIG problem. Nothing solid, with any mass to it, can move AT the speed of light in a given medium (vacuum or otherwise). And yet the distances we are talking about are anywhere from the dozens to the hundreds of light years away from earth....meaning it takes *light itself* that long to reach earth from these newly found worlds.

And while quantum physics gives us a little *tiny* bit of a backdoor (entanglement of particles) with which to communicate instantly over those huge distances, sending (or more precisely copying) data over those distances is mostly *not* the same as traveling there. And we haven't even begun to figure out how to communicate that way, never mind anything else...

Which leaves the whole question of: Ok, if there are aliens here, and they have *such massively superior technology* compared to us....why are things still debatable? Really, if the tech gap is that huge, either they should be utterly *impossible* to detect, meaning no evidence should exist *at all* that they are here, or, they should have utter confidence that they are *infallible* and perfect compared to us, meaning they'd be out in the open, flagrant as hell....no need to hide if you are dealing with relative cavemen (in techie terms) and *know it*. :)

See what I mean? And yeah, I am playing devil's advocate here, I've seen and heard enough from sources *I* consider reliable, that I really do think there is at least a presence here that isn't entirely local or human (and no, I'm not just talking about panspermic bacteria, ok? Not just "meteoric proteins", ok?). What they want with or out of us, I have no idea though, as I'd personally think an advanced civilization that can *get here* likely would not *want to* because they'd find us *disgusting*.

But yeah. Your question is harder than it seems and while I'd like to see it answered in my lifetime, for real...I'm not holding my breath waiting for the answer either. ;)

I personally feel that Aliens are real, that they are in fact out there. How sad would it be if we were but alone in this vast cosmos. Besides, consider that at one time scientists thought life could not exist without the sun, we now know there are creatures living off of heated chemicals in the depths of the sea. Not chemicals we live on, but stuff like methane! Consider the stretch from single cell organisms all the way to humans, (or the dolphins for all we know). Can life be any more different? Why would it be so difficult to assume it can only exist here on Earth?
My question is not "are aliens are out there?", but what the belief system of the aliens we meet is.

Yes, they are real. My logic is that humans are one species known as mammals on earth, and there are many other species on Earth populating this planet. Earth is one planet in a solar system surrounding one star that is in the Milky Way Galaxy. How many stars in the Milky Way Galaxy that we know of? Over 400 billion. What do you think that the chance of intelligent life would be with at least one planet in 400 billion would be?

They exist as sure as you and I do. They may not have made themselves known yet or have the technology or curiosity or desire to drop in to say hi! Perhaps...they may be communicating with another Earthly species besides Humans. Imagine what the shelter Cat or Dog would say to them? How about the Whales we slaughter, the Baby Seals we pummeled, the Eagle that just got a pellet shot in the wing, or the Tiger that was just dropped so that someone can have a better sex life, hmmmm?

Actually, WE are aliens to every other planet and moon in THIS solar system and the rest of the universe!

Aliens? They could be. Most likely, but if there aren't any now, there probably will be in the future. We humans have felt we have gone so far. When you think of the vast multitude of things we don't know, all we have is the pressing of a pen on the paper page of the knowledge of the universe. We know nothing. And will most likely kill our human race before anything of true importance is found. And as for aliens, there's a good chance we are they aliens THEY are looking for, with anticipation and fear, wondering if we can help them fill the pages of our collective book.

What do you think? 83 percent of the population beleive in some form of a Higher Power, they have never seen. 1 out of 100 people in American have seen something they believe to be a aliens or alien ship. Myself have seen 3 forms of what they call UFOs in my life time so far. I believe there is something we can't explane away. Hopely in your life time you will beable to experience such a thing as seeing a alien.

Ok, theres scientific reasoning going on but basically it's subject to debate, although I'd say no, there are not aliens, because there is no solid evidence.Assuming you mean foriegn creatures from foriegn planets. Most likely people with large imaginations or seeking fame, or perhaps stoned think they are. In my opinion, you just have a good imagination. :)
