If so, we have the infant suppositories but it does not specify an age range, would we insert the whole thing?

First off, you are sticking something up the rectum that will probably induce a bowel movement..... If he hasn't pooped in a while, he will, in the very least poop that out....

Secondly, it's possible that he is slightly dehydrated (breast milk can and will do that - if you are nursing that is) and he needs some help.

If you insert it just above his muscle... it will come out! Hopefully with some poop, which I pretty much guarantee you something will!

My daughter was so dehydrated that she actually pooped blood one time... She's almost eleven and still alive to tell you about it!

I regularly used glycerin suppositories to "get the mail moving"... She's fine!

Try some Pedialyte and see if he'll take it! My doc was a pediatrician for 40 years and he was always on the money!

I will share my own esperience with you, and perhaps it will help your situation in some way. My son was constipated from day one. He never had a normal bowel movement until he went on solid food... they were always rock hard and tough for him to get out. My pediatrician recommended putting a tablespoon of Karo Syrup in his formula. This seemed to help a little, but no drastic change. She also changed him to soy formula, but I don't think it helped. She said I could use the glycerin suppositories as a "last resort" which I ended up doing probably 2 times a month. It isn't recommened to give a 7 week old juice, but one thing that will help if you can get the baby to drink it is water. It is free and it is the best thing to flush out his system. You can also try massaging his belly if he seems in pain. And tummy time is very important, especially for our little guys with pooping problems. But once he is able to eat some solid foods you will notice a huge difference. Good luck to you!

It's perfectly fine to use suppositories if they are infant size. And no, glycerin suppositories not addictive like oral laxatives.
Apply vaseline to anus and push suppository in as far as it'll go or until rectal muscle pulls it away.
Guaranteed to clear the lower bowel in anything from 10-30 mins.

My son had the same problem. The Dr. told me to put about a ounce of apple or pear juice (make sure it's pasteurized) in with his formula, so I would a couple times a day. I also was told by a pharmacist to use the children's suppositories and cut them in half, and to make sure you kinda round out the flat end and only use a half of one. Dr. told me NEVER to use karo syrup or honey because it is not pasteurized. It is normal for some babies not to have a bowel movement for days, as long as when they do go it's a soft, pudding like texture. If it's hard they consider that constipation. Good Luck!

I would give your doctor a call before you give him one, but I'm pretty sure that it's okay. I had to give them to my son when he was just a tad bit older than that because of constipation due to a formula switch. My doctor is the one who told me about the suppositories, after I called her freaking out. As long as they are INFANT suppositories, you insert the whole thing. Just watch out - they work wonders! It only took a few minutes for my son to get back to normal! You're going to have some fun dirty diapers!

1st try karo or caro light syrup in his formula, t is in the pancke syrup isle it works in 12 hours, much safer than a suppository, also try mylicone along with. Sounds like you went from breast to formula. And NO just because it says infant means nothing, many infant cold medicines read on the back 2 or 24 pound min. age weight

No, no...don't do that....
I don't know how long it's been, but if you're sure it's time to go and you don't think he should wait any longer...
Try using a thermometer first. That worked when my kids were very young. It'll stimulate the muscles and loosen any little hard feces that might be stuck.....
Try it a couple times at half hour intervals...if that don't work, use your best judgement when it comes to the suppository....
If the doctor prescribed it of course.
Good luck ! ! !

if you are not sure and don't want to call the dr. you can use a q-tip with a little vaseline on it just insert the very tip, hold it there for a few seconds, then pull it out . the baby should have an automatic urge to push it out and some poop should come with it. if not, or if it is very hard you can put a little corn syrup in the formula or water, but i wouldn't give juice at seven weeks.

Hi, My baby started having problems with constipation when she was 6 weeks.I tried a cut a small portion of glicerin suppositorie, she immediatly has a bowel movement. Just make sure to not abuse them, because they are laxatives and can make the baby to became dehydrated. What problems is your baby having?
