Water is a molecule which is composed of two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of water. Each atom has smaller particles such as the nucleus which is surrounded by electrons. The nuecleus has smaller particles such as neutrons and protons. The electrical charges on the water molecule is what causes it to be sticky - stick to the other molecules of water such that surface tension exists or such that many many things dissolve in water or are dissolved by water - have some level of solubility.

distilled water without anything in it has the chemical composition of two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen thus with the chemical composition of H2O.
The molecule of water is dipolar it has a positive charge at the two H atoms and a negative charge at the oxygen side as they pick up and loose electrons. Such that it is negative at one end and positively charged at the other end thus it links to the other molecules of water making a rather connected group of water molecules which is why one can slide needle across the top of a glass of water that is very full. As water can disolve many many substances it can have a variety of other chemicals in it from the regions it passes through or what is also added to it such as in the ocean. There is a point where things begin to precipitate out of the water such that things like nodules are found on the bottom of the ocean floor. You can even find minute amounts of gold in the ocean.
Salt water has salt in it also obviously. Locally as there are sulfur and calcium deposits we have a great deal of that in our water locally. Some regions have alot of floride or iron in their water because of deposits in those regions.
Chlorine in rather minute amounts is added to water as it helps kill off pathogens by disrupting the outer tissues etc. of the organisms and is at a level that is considered to be safe to drink. If you let the water stand for awhile the clorine will evaporate out. The people I know who use it for fish tanks let it stand for 24 hours.

It is so simple, why the complicated answers. Yes O2 and H2 combined chemically to form H2O, now H2O is ONE NEW substance called (common language) WATER.

Water is made of one kind of particle = H2O. Other 'stuff' may dissolve in water but they are NOT part of waterwater, just in it.

. . . and if you didn't know, now you do . . .

Water = H2O. Actually HOH
O = l6 gr
H = 1 gr x 2 = 2
16 + 2 = 18 gr/mol
