Yes it would help. But first try to unburden your computer.
1)To begin with, click on
start > run
type msconfig. Press OK
Click on STARTUP tab.
Uncheck all entries there. Press OK. Reboot the computer.
2)if possible uninstall some unessential programs from your computer which are not essential.
(start > control panel >add/remove programs)
3) Download and install a registry cleaner.

Free RegScrubXP registry cleaner

After running the above program, you can remove obsolete entries from your windows registry.

4)You need an antivirus, an antispyware, and a firewall on your pc. In case you do not have, here is a suggestion.
AVG free antivirus, Ewido(Now called AVG free antispyware), Zonealarm free firewall.

Reinstalling your OS will do nothing. If you have unwanted programs get rid of them. Do a scan with an adware and spyware remover like spybot (which is free).

And as everyone else says you need to get more RAM. Check your manual on the type of RAM you can install. It is quite simple to put in. You just take the back off and plunk it into the slot. Read about it in the manual. You can never have enough RAM.

Besides more RAM, u could start deleting programs from your task bar menu that aren't in use (lower right corner.) Right click on them and choose close. You could also increase Virtual Memory (see windows help). Remember to double it, but it will use up more HD.

go to Start: Run: type in "msconfig":click on "startup" tab: uncheck the programs you don't wnat running on start up.

also, sounds like you need more RAM. 256MB is the bare minimum, I would reccomend 512 or higher.

ur ram is in short supply! :) and if u want to continue with the present ram capacity, decrease ur startup program list thru "msconfig" (use that in Run).

while all the previous advice assumes overloading,
have you simply tried to reboot, by turning off the computer?

get more RAM memory...256MB is ok but only if you're not running too many applications....and if you're a gamer, then you definitely need more than that...at least 512 but preferably even more
