Dude, it is not your computer! I have the same issues and I am 100% convinced that microsoft is the problem. Windows is bogus software. Evidence:

1) you have to download a million updates. Every single day there is a new update available that supposedly fixes something

2) When Bill Gates was showing of his new Windows XP, it crashed on him.

3) You have to install those service packs that solve absolutely nothing

4) There are so many error messages during normal use, it's almost unreal.

Hence, either convert to mac or learn to live with it.

your problem does in fact lie with microsoft. windows is a huge drain on resources, and causes security risks etc. i've been using linux for about 2 months now, and can do everything in linux i could in windows. the only problems come from using microsoft programs on linux through windows emulation, but almost 100% of microsoft programs (excluding games) have an open source competitor that is as good if not better.

there is a bit of learning you must do to get the power of linux, but once you get this down (not nearly as user unfriendly as microsoft plays it to be, i learned everything in a months time) you will never want to return to windows. check the sources for more details.

the open source community as a whole is a very helpful community that exists to better computer technology, not make a profit.

It could be caused by deceptive software. Use a program to detect spyware like SpyBot S&D. Use a Anti-Virus program like AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic too. Both are free.

Have you scanned for spyware/adware? Download Spy-bot Search & Destroy, and Ad-Aware. They are free. Update and run them often. Try turning off the system restore in the control panel, "system", "system restore" tab, then reboot and scan. Also check these out:

its probably a virus in the boot sector of ur hard drive. if its a graphics program that gives a problem, then it may be ur video card... if its one class of programs, then find the common cause... be a little more elaborate..
